An interesting take on Lou Gehrig's disease

The following line from the attached article really stuck out at me:

Lou Gehrig might not have had Lou Gehrig’s disease.

I'm not a doctor but my understanding is that ALS is comparable to alzheimer's disease. While individuals can show symptoms and respond to treatments, you never *really* know until you're dead and they cut out your brain. Obviously, that's not an option while the person is still alive.

We live in an advanced society, yet in the whole scheme of things, our knowledge is limited when it comes to the human body. That's why research funds are so desperately needed, especially in today's economic uncertainty. Corporate philanthropy is waaaaaaaaaay down and they have to count on the generosity of regular Joes, like us. If there's a cause that's affected you, either personally or know someone that knows someone, volunteer or donate time/money when possible.
