Bidding or winning or won anything at memory Lane Auction ???

Haven't seen a post about the Memory Lane auction so i thought i would start one. Again, like usual i was bidding on a few items and finally got outbid. For me i collect mainly hockey.
I was going after the 1968 Topps vending and the complete 1972 Topps set. I get sick of the 15 minute rule crap but seems that every auction house does it. Especially when it prolongs the auction well over 4 hours or more. They should cap how long a auction can go over.
All well maybe next auction i'll win something !!

I was bidding on a few items, but when you factor in the 19.5% buyer premium and the sales tax (for CA residents), you end up paying close to 30% on top of your bid. And the bid increments are taken at 10% above the last bid, so it's hard to bid for the exact figure you want to pay.

Lost out on a Mars Attacks set in the wee hours of the morning....won two lots though!

picked up the '65 baseball set at a decent price even considering the juice.

Also got the '66 Wax Pack--Mantle Series--PSA-7 at a very good price.

The '68 Hockey Vending box was sick! As were the 2 hockey wax packs.

I won three T201 lots (116, 122 and 126) which have gone MUCH lower than previous sales in the past....

The Summers / Jennings card in PSA 7 has consistently sold around $400 per VCP, and I was able to pick it up for $175 WITH the juice. Similar deals on the other two cards.

Apparently the interest in T201's at least is not big right now, but at those prices for PSA 7's, I'll scoop them up all day!

    Czar--sorry to hear that.

    What did you consign?

  • << <i>i consigned a took a hit. it was the worst results that i have ever had. i have used MH three times and was always pleased. i don't know if it was the economy, ML or just bad luck. when i consigned i did not know that the buyers juice was going up. i am sure that did not help things either.

    lesson learned. >>

I doubt that a 1.5% increase in buyers premium made that big of an impact. Weird that you would have poor results on items you consigned but most other items that ML runs usually set record prices. Just a coincidence?? image

  • I was also looking at the Orr from 1968 OPC PSA 9's. I never even bid on it because the grade did not fit the card. Sorry but the off centering was to much for a PSA 9. Not that it deserved an OC qualifier but it sure looked ugly for a PSA 9. Would not want it in my collection. If they graded it a PSA 8 that would have been fine but not PSA 9.
Sorry you took the hit this time around but we all take hits sooner or later. I think the convention might off had something to to with it as well. If somebody ended up buying the 1968 Topps hockey vending box and if you re opening it please post pics !! image

I can't believe a group of four PSA 9 1975 baseball cellos with no stars showing went for $835 plus juice! Wow!

And the pair of PSA 8 1975 mini wax packs with Brett and Yount on back at $389 plus juice weren't far behind..

I won one lot, and even with the juice it was about 20% below VCP. I also saw a number of things go for low amounts.

    I went 0 for 8.

Not unusual for me, I rarely win with this auction format.

I was the underbidder on that lot--drinking heavily 1 nite and they looked soooo good.

    THANK GOD someone outbid me!
