Need a quality scanner? Get the Epson V300 under $90 dlvd today!

Epson is offering a $20 discount that ends today on the Epson Perfection V300. Final cost is $79.99 ($89.94 with standard shipping).
Other members have this unit and rave about it. It also includes an in-lid adapter for slides and film scanning (great for us old folks with tons of negatives and KodaChrome slides).
Here's a link to pick up the Epson Perfection V300. Checking locally, no one carries it, so you'd probably have to order it online and most of the prices are higher than this after you get done with tax, s/h, etc...

Price also fluctuates on there and it was in the $79 range a few days ago.

<< <i>I got mine for $89.95 from B&H Video... free shipping. >>
A penny cheaper via my link...
Some buyers from B&H or Amazon may incur state sales tax. Amazon Super Saver Free shipping is typically a 5-10 day ground ship. B&H/Espon/BestBuy are usually 2-5 day ships. Just a heads-up...

Just my 2 cents.
<< <i>Have you ever used it for scanning negative or slides? >>
That is on my agenda after I get some of the collection scanned. I've got several thousand slides/negatives from concerts that I took during the late 1970's and very early 1980's (Springsteen, Talking Heads, Ramones, U2, The Police, Ian Hunter, Rush, Elton John, Wings, Heart, Aerosmith, Yes, Cheap Trick, Judas Priest, Ironmaiden, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Twisted Sister, etc) that I have to dig out of storage, but I'm looking forward to it. A friend that has this has used it and says it compares to having the slides professionally converted. I still don't have any word with regard to negatives.

Oh man I'd love to see some of those (especially Twisted Sister).

Sadly, my friends and I were part of the original SMFFofTS when the band was still playing clubs along the eastern shores. They had weekly stops on Staten Island (Soap Factory/Rock Factory) and NJ (Fountain Casino) and we got to know them pretty well. Nothing like their onstage personae which played great in the small venues.
I've still got all of the 45 RPM and 33 1/3 RPM band released singles and EP's from before they finally got signed in Europe in '82. I know there are a few shots of the band backstage putting on their makeup (Dee's wife Suzi - fiancee at the time - did most of the makeup and costuming for the band). She's in a few shots, too.

That would be one of the best times of the band. So raw and full of energy with the drive to take on the world. Got a handful of their audio bootlegs from that era (79/80) and a great 2 disc DVD of them at the 2001 Odyssey Disco on June 18th 1980. Great stuff.

The only thing is I found the editing tools (he said tools) a little
too hard to understand on the Epson, so I use my HP editing software, which I kept loaded on my computer, to accomplish that.
You guys will love the V300. It has that CCD device so it scans slabs
clearly and in focus.
I hope this doesn't start another 15 threads about scanners.....

<< <i>WOW, those are some great scans! >>
They sure are!!
<< <i>I got an HP Photosmart D110 series. I think the scans are nice. The only thing I can't figure out is sometimes I put a card on and it won't scan the entire thing or it will scan is in a strange way cutting off some of the card. Any advice? This is the first scanner I had in 10 years. I always use a camera. But now that I got back into cards, I had to get one. Anyway, here is a scan of a couple of cards. Any expertise is welcome!
Don't know about your scanner questions, but that looks like a very nice 1 for the Aaron rookie. Good eye appeal. One quick scanner tip, if you will leave the top open when you scan, you'll get the nice black background which will help the contrast of your scans.

Can't believe I missed this post earlier. Did you ever get any pics of Randy Rhoads with Ozzy?
Thanks for the tip. I did try that, and I still get some crazy things happening sometime. It seems like it happens with cards that have white outlines. Thanks for the comments on the Aaron. It is a nice "1".
Thanks, Joe
Could anyone tell me how it's photo recognition abilities are compared to previous Epson models? This is actually very important for me as the 3490, can sometimes look at a yearbook page for example and see a color photo, or a black and white photo, and every blue moon a doc. I try to trick it into doing both a color and b/w sometimes. In most cases the color is better, but every now and then the B?W will seem to fill in more of the original shot.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
I have always used the color even when doing black and white pages. Reason is, there is always some level of grays in the scale of each the black and the white, no matter how black or how white they look to our eyes.
Also, I believe the V330 is just the newer version of the V300...you may not find in retail but surely you can find online. This V330 does slides AND 35mm...I dont know if the V300 does that or not. Either way, Im sure you will love it.
Even though there is no holder for super 8, I may give it a try. I have a super 8 from the associated press of 1959 and 1960 world series clips. I want to try to get some unique images of Mantle that are on there.
found a card I had scanned with my old HP all in one a while back
then scanned the same card with the same settings I always used with my Epson all in one
and then scanned it with the V33 - night and day
not that big a deal cause my other printer / scanner is still set up and can just be scanned with that one

its so sad that in this day and age with all the internet, that Eddie Mathews is so forgotten
WTB: PSA 1 - PSA 3 Centered, High Eye Appeal 1950's Mantle
Do you guys use the factory settings or do you use something else or tweak the settings for brightness or something like that?
Is this an easy scanner to use for a less than savy user like myself?
Thanks,
aconte

i think you're dead wrong.

I have several hundred 1960 Topps and many sit in the holder very similar to the Mathews. Either that is typical for those cards or PSA is missing an awful lot of them.

Then I tried the Epson Scan software that it came with in professional mode and it had a default gamma setting of 2.2 and 2 other choices - 1.8 or no color correction. I experimented with all 3 and the one using the gamma 2.2 was dead on to how the card actually looked.
Also got the same results with older scans by choosing "auto levels" in Photoshop.
