Here is an amazing baseball Hall of Fame list

After the baseball HOF got up and going and recent retirees were put in the Hall several greats were not elected on the first ballot.

They include:
Rogers Hornsby
Frankie Frisch
Lefty Grove
Carl Hubbell
Jimmy Foxx
Dizzy Dean
Joe DiMaggio (got 44% on first ballot and got in on third try!)
Hank Greenberg
Roy Campanella
Whitey Ford
Juan Marichal
Don Drysdale
Harmon Killebrew
Billy Williams
Carlton Fisk

You could make a pretty good team out of that crew.

    When are Ron Santo,Minnie Minoso and Gil Hodges going to join in.
    Was Ozzie Smith better than Marty Marion??? Ozzie did do good summersalts I will give him credit for that.Heck Nick Punto deserves HOF consideration if Ozzie made it on the first ballot.

    I like polos.

    More seriously, I imagine Marty Marion lack of batting skills, kept him from the HOF. A .263 career average isn't that bad, especially when a player has great defensive skills like Marion, however he was also a top sacrafice hit player almost every season....meaning a good share of his hits...were more like or were bunts.

    I don't think Ozzie Smith needs any justification.
    Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
    Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

    Ozzie in the hall of fame makes a good case for Omar Vizquel. Ozzie's stats compared to Omar:

    Ozzie: BA: .262 Hits: 2,460 RBI: 793 Stolen Bases: 580 Gold Gloves: 13

    Omar: BA: .273 Hits: 2,765 RBI: 927 Stolen Bases: 395 Gold Gloves: 11

    Good point with Omar and Ozzy

    Speaking of fielding....I think Keith Hernandez is one of the best not to get in. He was a really good (not tremendous) hitter and clutch player. Combine that with being one of the best ever for sure at his position I think he deserves it

    Hornsby, Grove, and Foxx are the only ones that should have been 1st ballet...

    The rest either had "Koufax like" careers (Dean, Greenberg, DiMaggio, Drysdale, Campanella), or were more well known for a single events (ie. Hubbell AS game strikeouts), or problems (Marichal bat incident with Roseboro)
    Killebrew, Williams, and Fisk, made it because of career numbers. Ford because his stats were helped being a Yankee during their WS years. Frisch was solid but so were many 1930s players, he was more of a team leader than a superstar.

    PS Santo, Hodges, etc. are NOT HOFers IMO, they were stars, not Superstars, if you elect them you will have to elect the other 500 players with similar stats not in HOF (ie. Oliva, Pinson, Wills, Maris, Colavito, Jensen, Babe Herman, Berger, Rowe, D.Allen, Adc-0ck, Sievers, Kuenn, Score, York, Kluszewski, Dropo, Lynn, Tanana, Kaat, Munson, Parker, Garvey, Foster, Oliver, T.John, Buckner, Mattingly, J.Morris,etc. etc. etc. ... and the HOF will be diluted with non Superstars..... But then again they put Joe Gordon in HOF a couple years ago. So?

    So do you and anyone else feel Hernandez was just a star also and not a superstar but his unreal fielding should have given him that little extra needed to get in the hall?

    Joe Dimaggio won three MVP's and finished second twice and third once. In his second season he hit .346, slugged .673 with 46 HR's and 167 RBI's.

    He hit .325 for a career an up until his last season he had more HR's than strikeouts. His 162 game average of RBI's was 143 with 207 hits.

    Greenberg missed almost five full seasons due to the war. Prior to serving his country he had seasons with RBI totals of 139, 170, 183, 146 and 150. He hit 58 HR's one season and in his first full season back after World War II he 44 HR's with 127 RBI's. He also won two MVP's.
