National Treasures, Part 1.

Well, by now you've all heard the story of the good kitty cat, so now it's time to share what I managed to dig up in 2 whirlwind days at the National. Off the top, I bought a 61 and 68 set, probably overpaid a bit for both but submitted a bunch of the 61's there and if there's a few out of there for me to keep and sell the rest, so be it. Then I ran across a gorgeous group of 53's, most of which were submitted for later grading and finally a big group of 50's-70's cards including a Koufax RC and some other stuff. So all that poppage will come later.

So for now, here are part 1 of the highlights. This is mostly stuff I bought post submission and didn't have time to get back to PSA to sub.

Thought this was nice for the grade, so I bought it:

And one of my white whales. I've never seen a copy of this card that I've truly liked. This one comes closer than most, and I'll keep it until I see a better one. Corners on this card are close to mint.

Nice stuff Ron. Yes, the Berra-Mantle card is super tough in high grade. Almost every 8 looks like crap. You now own a keeper.

That Sutton rookie looks 9 worthy. Very nice!
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
  • Those are absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Sweet. No wonder there's not much good stuff on eBay right now, it was all at the National.

    Nice Mr. B -

When you find a nicer Mantle/Berra, drop me a line. I'll take that one off your hands.
  • That Sutton is very nice. You hardly ever see one centered that nicely.

Since someone else asked first I dont feel so nosey! I have the same question as above....when I saw the Mays I was thinking "I wonder what he paid for that"..be honest now.
It is a beautiful card looks like a 8.5
This card is hard to find with no tilt (diamond cut).

Picked up the Mays for $365. A little over VCP but I didn't care, I would've paid up to $400 for it. I'll resub it at some point.

Thats a great card-I was thinking around 350 to 400-I really think it is underrated being the #1 card in the set.

That's funny. I've never seen a copy of this card that I've truly disliked!, and it's high on my want list too.

    In any event, nice cards.

  • Ron, the 66 Mays is amazing I would say crack and resub that looks like a 8 or 8.5 all day long unless there is something wrong with the back (centering/print spots/wax). I really like that 49 Yogi too sweet lookin card.
