Ron Burgundy's National Tales............expect the unexpected.
So when I bolted blazin' Texas 10 days ago to head towards Baltimore, I could not have imagined the chain of events that would lead me into, shall we say, an unexpected situation at the National. I expected 3 days of relative peace searching for good cards, selling others, and slabbing a few. Well, things got a little hairy to say the least.
I want to apologize in advance for not meeting up with some of the board members there. I wanted to meet Matt and several others, but for the reasons that follow, the schedule went out the window.
My journey started with an uneventful flight into Pittsburgh, selected because it was kinda in between Baltimore and Canton, OH, the 2nd part of my sports vacation. (National, Camden, PNC, HOF Festivities, HOF Game). I rented a car in Pittsburgh, spent a day at my in-laws' farm, then headed to Baltimore on Monday morning. This is where things changed.
During the trip, I stopped at a rest stop. Pulling back onto the road, I spotted something rustling around in the grass. Then I saw a little tail dart into the weeds. I pull over to investigate. And there in the grass is a tiny, fluffy kitten looking up at me and squeaking quietly. I waded into the weeds and picked the kitten up. Fluffy, friendly, and.....covered in dirt. Probably dumped there. Within seconds of picking her up she started purring. It didn't take long to decide that I wasn't going to leave her there.....some of you know I love animals and that wasn't an option. I emptied out a cardboard box I had in the car that was full of cards and put her in it and began looking for the nearest vet. I found one about 20 miles down the road, and it was your typical stray diagnosis: upper respiratory infection, eye infection. Treatment for that, plus deworming: $300. Carrier + food + litter supplies: $85. Little kitten as a travel buddy to the National: Priceless.
So what are the odds that the hotel I wound up with in Baltimore - booked just days earlier when my friend I was staying with had to leave town on business - was pet friendly? Bam, pet friendly, no extra charge. So the little wildcat rolled with me down I-70 to B-town. And there she stayed with me for two days. The pic is below.
Now, my original schedule called for me to be there Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday before heading to Canton, but now I had to do something with the kitten. So I left early Thursday morning and drove her 6 hours to my mom's house out in the country, where she now is staying for the time being until we can find a home for her. She is a sweet little cat, and slept beside me at the hotel both nights.
As for the show itself, in 2 days I managed to buy 61, 68, and 71 sets, plus a bunch of cards I submitted. More on that later plus some scans from the little mall show I hit later in the week. But for now, here's the little wildcat. I'm not disappointed my time at the show was cut short. Things happen for a reason and anytime I can help out a good kitty cat or the good puppy dog, I'm going to do it.
Anyone want to adopt a kitten?
Thanks for listening to all of that.

Karma will reward you for that.
reminds me of my cat 18 years ago
most Maine Coons have the M on their forehead I think
I like to think that God is at work in these situations. Random stop, random attention to something in the grass, I randomly find a hotel that welcomed pets, etc. Too coincidental for everything to just fall into place like that. Just like the dog that appeared at our house last winter (she has a great home BTW).
I'm just throwing this out there, but..........IF anyone might be interested in adopting her, I will pay for her first round of vaccinations and split the cost to transport her wherever you live. Or, I will send you vintage cards of an equal amount.

I kind of had an experience like that also. We made a lanst minute decision to go to the National on Saturday. My son and I to the show and my wife and daughter shopping in Inner Harbor.
Friday night was a little hectic and we wanted to get to bed early since we were leaving early Saturday. It was later Friday night and instead of making dinner, I was going to SaladWorkds for myself and McDonalds for the kids. When I got to Saladworks, they were closed. it was about 9:00. Walking back to the car I heard a noise and there it was. A pretty little kitten. Like you Ron, I cannot and will not leave an animal like that.
An employee was letting a customer out of the store so I asked for a box. She checked and came back telling me she did not have one. I spoke to her briefly explaining my situation of going to Baltimore will have to wait until I can get her to the Humane Society on Saturday. She said she would call her mom to see if she could take it. That was a no go, but she did say she would take it for the night, feed it, clean it and ake it Saturday to the Humane Society.
I left to go home, got a box and returned to SaladWorks. The mother was there with her daughter. I handed it over and I think they already have a home for it. they said there neighbor is probably going to take it. I sure hope so. It was an cute little thing. I would have kept it bu i am allergic to cats and I already have four dogs, two rabbits and two hamsters.
hope you find a good home for it quickly.

Since she was a bit dirty, how about naming her after this guy:
