Question for the Topps Heritage experts

I listed this on eBay, (auction format) and I guess it's a little more popular than I realized.

I have had a few offers roll in. I'm considering ending the auction early, judging by the "weight" of the offers.

What's the going price for this? (#'d 25) Should I just let the Heritage folks duke it out?

Thanks in advance for the input.

Let it ride, they can basically offer it against each other and you'll end up with a higher sale

This was my initial thinking, as well.

Just wanted to know if there was a "going" price.

  • I was one of those offers and I would love to own the card

But I would definitely respect your decision to let the auction run.

I usually try to make an offer just to make sure someone else doesn't beat me to the punch.

Let me know if you change your mind.

    Thanks

I'm just curious - what's the top offer?

This one sold recently for 50 clams:

One sold in July 2007 for around $700++ (I believe) on eBay.

There was no chipping around the gold border. Are the white marks on the gold border of your example from the scanner?

My recommendation is to let it ride, sir. Would love to hear the offers you received so far....

Here is the pic of the card that sold in 2007.

If it was me I would offer it to Joe first, he has been a great member of this board for years now. You have been provided with plenty of info to guage its
value, give him a shot first. I can tell you that favors like that always come around.

I think its safe to say that a card like this comes around maybe once every 3 years. Good Luck

    Buuuuu-sted!!! image

Thanks for the info on the previous sale, though I'd say we're in a slightly different economic landscape now.

I would love to sell it to a board member, but we'll have to see. Joe's offer was somewhere between $50 and $700. image

I guess letting it ride is the way to go. Unless I get an offa I can't refuse.

Thanks for the info. This place still amazes me sometimes, that someone knows the previous sale price (from 3+ years ago) of a limited print card. Amazing.

  • Before I get bashed, just so everyone knows, my offer was significantly more than $50.

    Walt,

Thanks for the kind words, it is much appreciated. But the way it looks right now, this card is not going to fit my idea of a "sane" purchase.

    EA,

Good luck with your sale and I really hope you get what you want out of the card. I would be willing to offer a little more than my original offer but I won't touch that $700 figure. I know that this card never comes up and it's an 01, which almost makes it magical but I have purchased 04 and 03 Mays CC relic autographs /25 in the past few months for $220 and $250 respectively. Given that fact, I just can't pay $700 for an 01 Snider in good conscience. I will still be watching and hopefully bidding on the card but I have limits.

Yes, his offer was significantly more than $50. image

In fact, your offer (and a couple of others in that ballpark) made me post this, because it surprised me.

I think letting it ride will be the best bet. And I don't think it will approach $700.

Not that I'd complain, I just don't think that's at all realistic.

  • I can't blame you EA and I appreciate the honesty.

If you change your mind, you know how to reach me. Otherwise, I hope I can win the card at auction.

Can you please let us know if there are chips or scuffs on the gold border of your example. It appears so on the scan you provided...but it may be the scanner.

    Thanks
  • 99.9% sure those chips are on the card. Probably from being over-tightened in a screw down case. Very common problem with 01s.

    Great card!

Bet one of those offers came from So Cal and one from the Jersey area.

Good luck with your auction, it's a toughie!

THe chips will hurt the value but if someone really wants the card that won't matter, I have seen it with plenty of heritage cards. Duke isn't exactly a rare heritage
autograph but this card is just too rare to pass up, plus you can't touch a box of 01 heritage for under 250. Good Luck with the sale and please let us know what
    you get for it.

On the card... sorry. Didn't see the request.

Assume it came from the pack like that, as it's been in penny sleeve and jumbo toploader since being pack pulled. Screw-downs are the devil.

I must have opened a silly amount of Heritage in '01. I sold my Maddux/Matthews dual GU last year... I just ran across this a few weeks ago, and decided to part with it. I've sold a bunch of high numbers recently.

Of course, I think I opened a lot of everything in '01.

I also think the chips will hurt the selling price..but you never know. I would of been a strong bidder otherwise.

This is a 2001 heritage auto relic. they will always command a significant premium from 2001 - even though there's just as many (25) printed in other years.

The willie mays goes for over $1k typically. I would let this ride (no offense joe).

As has been mentioned by another poster, any regular, non-serial #d blue-ink heritage auto of the duke will only set you back ~$50. In fact, post 2001, the only blue ink autos that should set you back more than $50 are mays, aaron, yogi and banks.

Saw two boxes of '01 in a shop near Seattle for $375 per. Didn't even bother asking for a better price.

  • None taken Jim.

There are a few other heritage autos that sell for over 50:

    Musial
    Posey
    Ryan Howard
    David Wright
    Roger Clemens
    Bob Gibson

And I am probably forgetting a few more.

Also I busted 20 packs of an 01 box last week while in Vegas (felt like doing a different type of gambling). Paid 200 for the 20 packs. Didn't pull a whole lot ( 13 sps and a Corey Patterson chrome)

Card sold tonight to our own Joe...

For more than any of the offers I received. image

But less than half of the last sale in 2007 image (less than $300)

That sounds like a win-win for everyone!

Glad for Joe, that is a nice card, man you could of saved yourself ebay fees, oh well.

I had figured the card would sell for $50, so I'm chalking this one up as a win.

nice job joe! i forgot about musial....he only has 04 and 06, and i picked them up long ago in a package deal, so i was never in the market for them.

i forgot about the current players too....and anything 2001 is golden.
  • Thanks for the support fellas.

A real weird thing happened tonight as well. Someone listed an 01 Minoso cc auto relic too. I used the BIN at 200. Needless to say I am very excited to get that set down to one card needed (schoedienst).

Also I need some opinions. The same seller has an 01 chipper classic renditions autograph for sale. I have the nomar and bonds and I paid about 200 for each of them. Does anyone have any sale history on the chipper?

  • WaltWalt Posts: 1,275 ✭✭✭
I couldn't think of a worse time to sell the Chipper. Remember when he was threatening to hit .400 last year. His stuff was on fire. Chipper has always
been popular, I would even venture to say more than Bonds, but we all know that Bonds stuff has been in decline. The Classic Renditions is one of the
rarest sets that heritage ever put out. So rare that it didn't last more than a few years in ink form. If I collected this stuff and could get one for 200 I would be
very happy. Hopefully you can take advantage of the timing the get it for a good price and I consider a good price anything less than a box of 01
    heritage!

    Good Luck!
  • Well, I bought the Chipper.

And I don't think I got a "good" deal but I honestly don't know when I'll see another one. I guess I can take a little comfort in the fact I paid less than an 01 box costs in Seattle. Not much less, but still less.
