Reference KM#4 pg 283 in Krause 1801-1900 5th ed.
I have the opportunity to buy the following Eritrean coins:
1891 5 Tallero Unc.
1891 5 Tallero EF
anyone here familiar with the coins? Specifically, are they commonly counterfeited? What is the 'real world', as compared to Krause, value for these two. Any information is really appreciated. TIA.

edited to add... at the time, I did a search on eBay and found a number of listings for pieces which were claimed to be counterfeits.

Too cheap and they have been known to be counterfeited. Heritage sale this year on a 63 here

I think you are right and are of Italian origin. I think they used the transfer die method. Very hard to spot unless you know the coin or the workmanship.

I had bought it many years ago when I started putting together a crown size type set. The dealer has since passed away so I'm out a bit over $100.
