Ebay search question

Maybe I am missing something here (literally), but when I search for items, Ebay does NOT show the items on sale in my regular search. I know of one seller who has a few things on sale and they don't come up when I do a search for those type items. I have to look at sellers other items to find the sale items.

And the same goes with completed listings. I made a purchase last night of an item on sale and it does not show up. Usually that is listed under completed items almost immediately. Makes me wonder if VCP is not getting those listings either.

Are we missing good deals because Ebay does not want to show sale items (because they get less of a cut)?

Or am I just missing something, which is completely possible.
Looking for Carl Willey items.

You are correct, but it more depends on the number of listings the thing you are searching, on what they show.

eBay also will limit the amount of items for a seller at times. Like if you have three Don Mattingly PSA 10's and I search Don Mattingly PSA 10, it might only show me one or two of yours.

Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
  • When I search for my normal listings I know I am getting sale items (at least some if not all) because just_collect items appear in searches. But nothing would suprise me about ebay attempting to make more money.

If that is true, thats very disturbing. I would be curious to see whose PSA 10 didn't show up in my search and if it had anything to do with what the current bid was.

Its even more troubling if certain raw cards don't show up in a search because with those, you may only be interested in 1 out of 100 of the same card, based on the condition that you see in the picture. Would be a shame if ebay incidentally cut out the auction of the mint raw card because they assumed there were already 99 of the same auction going on.

The saved searches also only 90% work or something like that. Again, I think it more has to do with the number of items you are searching.

One of my saved searches is for a master set I am working on and I can always search eBay and find a few the search didn't bring up.

The search engine changed about 2 years ago to what it is now..perhaps Storm remembers when this happened.

Now that I have read what Mark posted, I do vaguely remember this being mentioned a year or two ago. It is a shame, especially for us card collectors because as we all know, not all cards are created equal.

I had been searching Fritsch auctions and just happened to check out his other items when I found the sale items. When I did a regular search, none of the sale items are listed. Sure, they may have 15 or so of the same YEAR pack listed, but each pack is different because of the players showing.

This would explain how on some of my completed searches I find items I missed. You would think Ebay would want to show ALL items, especially sale items. I know if I was in the market for an item, I would look at sale items first.

There is logic in the search system...outside of collectibles. Take for example a new Sony stereo. No reason to bring up 4 of the same listing from the same seller in a page/s of 150 listings.
