Why are some cards so hard to find?? '59 MAYS

I attended the National yesterday with my heart set on finding 6 cards on my want list (found one). Granted, I am VERY picky about centering so I knew the odds would be against me. Anyway, I have been looking for one card in particular for over the last 3 years and came away empty handed yesterday. I did have a nice conversation with Donald Spence who let me hold some Pop 1 PSA 8.5 and 9 Allen & Ginter's, Diamond Stars, and '33 Goudey's. Very nice man. Anyway, why can't I find a 1959 Topps #50 Willie Mays Sharp and Centered? I must have held 15 graded and ungraded copies and not one was on par. I even found a few PSA 8's but they were badly centered (for the grade). Is there something I don't know about this card? I been told some cards from the '59 set are impossible to find centered. Is this true? Sorry for the rant but I had my hopes up I would bring a beauty home after 8 hours of searching and came up short. I won’t rest until I find a NM or better 50/50 copy!

<< <i>I paid over smr on this one and it is probably the best centered I've encountered. I know what you mean >>
If that one is centered, I hate to see an OC one.....

<< <i>Here's a nice one I found after a quick ebay search. I'd rather have this one then that off-center Mays any day. BTW not my auction
