Does anyone remove the card from the really ugly frame Topps puts their A & G auto cards in, before sending it in for grading? Will PSA grade just the card without the frame?

Hmmmm good question, this year the frames are horrific as they hide part of the card.

I actually always liked the frames. They do have that 70's horrid wallpaper look but they are kinda cool (in a horrid 70's wallpaper kinda way). I bought a Joba Chamberlain auto card a few years agao just because the black design frame made the card look cool.

Good question. The answer, in my opinion, is that it depends on if the auto is a BLUE ink or a RED ink. RED ink autos come both with and without the frame. The RED inks come framed as a normal hit in a box, but they also come without frames if you pull them inside of RIP cards. So, if you pull a framed RED ink, I think its fine to take it out of the frame, since Topps manufacturers them either way.

The BLUE ink auto on the other hand should not be removed from the frame. Topps only makes these framed, so in my opinion if you remove the blue ink autos from the frame, you're altering the intended format of the card.

Good Point Dr. House. That didn't occur to me. PSA won't grade an auto unless it's authenticated and they might think it's fake if i take it out of the frame... hmmm

great, i'm stuck with this crappy looking, palm tree image, puke colored frame. nice... who came up with the palm trees anyway... stupid.
