Bruce Lee cards

I know this is obscure but does anybody else here collect Bruce Lee cards? The only America issue I can find is the Green Hornet set. He has some European cards/stickers from the 1970s and a couple of sets. One set was issued in Japan (Yamakatsu) in the 1970s. The other set (features the Big Boss movie - aka Fists of Fury) was issued in Holland (Monty) for distribution in Europe. If you know of any others, I would love to hear about them.

Here are some scans from my Monty set:

Bruce Lee was in the Allen & Ginter set a few years ago; I believe there was a base card, a mini (with all of the parallels) and a relic containing a piece of his black belt.

Bruce was also in the oversized multi-sport 1977-79 Sportscaster set.

  • Those are cool cards. The Sportscaster is not his oldest card/sticker. I know the Yamakatsu set was issued in 1977 (same time as the Star Wars set). There are some European stickers from the 1975 time period. I have heard of some cards issued in Hong Kong in 1971 and 1972; however, I have not been able to confirm. The Monty set was issued in the late 1970s or early 1980s. I have the feeling that it was probably a test set for the English market. I have found numerous Monty sets for other TV issues (e.g., Kojac, Six Million Dollar Man) and music sets (e.g., Elvis, Punk, Beatles). However, I have only seen this one set in 8 years of looking.

Those cards from the Monty set do not depict the legendary star whom we all know as "Bruce Lee." Rather, they are of the Taiwan-born actor, Chung Tao Ho, popularly known to American audiences as "Bruce Li." He was one of the first and most successful Bruce Lee imitators who flooded the mid '70's/early '80's martial arts films. Don't let that "The Big Boss" card fool you. I'm not sure about all the cards, but most show scenes from the 1976 Bruce Li movie, "Bruce Lee: The Man, the Myth."

Although he paled in comparison to the original, Bruce Li was my personal favorite of all the "fake Bruce Lees."
