Need Help, Customs

I recently purchased two sports cards on eBay from Japan, the total for both cards is $4,000.

The package will be insured/valued for the full amount and be sent as "gift". I contacted USPS and they directed me to www.cbp.gov / 1-877-227-5511 , calling the number provided has been no luck because apparently the call volume is large and they keep telling me to call back later.....even though I have tried five or six times this week.

I am simply trying to find a chart that can give me approximate amount I would have to pay in tax.

Anyone know of a link or who else to call?

Can you stop by your local post office and ask? You'll likely have to pick it up their anyway.
    Who is Rober Maris?
  • Through the website you gave there is an option to ask a question via email and get a direct response from the agency.

They told me to call up because they do not have the information.

It is the govt. that you are waiting on, it could be a long wait. Good luck.

If it is a 'gift' why do you have to pay tax?

    Use tax?

    Good for you.

I read somewhere that only gift under $200 is tax free.

The tax also depends on what country the item is coming from and they charge more or less tax.

    Item is coming from Japan

After u receive those two cards are u going to have a contest on the boards and offer them as prizes to the first two people to reply and then not send them to the winners like u did with all of your contests a year ago???

    About the contest...

I had good intentions but at that point in time last year money and life were not stable.

The contest was not a sale or something that I owed.....just simply something I wanted to do to thank everyone for making this forum great. Unfortunately, I could not fulfill because of certain life events that changed my life, finances, etc.

I did send a few replies back to the winners explaining my situation and said sorry I could not fulfill.

So now that you seem to be doing alright financially since you are spending $4K on modern cards you going to come through and send those people that you stiffed something of equal value to what you originally offered them?
  • GonblottGonblott Posts: 1,951 ✭✭
It doesn't matter what amount I spend on cards and how do you know the purchase is intended for me?

I did not "stiff" anybody, it was free stuff that I intended to giveaway but my situation changed. My wife and I divorced and I made unexpected move.....the PSA boards was the last thing on my mind.

Again, I am sorry that I could not deliver on the free items.

Equal value? lol Did you even see the contest?

One card was I think a Randy Johnson PSA card, worth no more than $15.... The rest of the giveaways was going to be mostly common 80's 90's and some early 00's cards, depending on the person's favorite team...

I did not advertise to giveaway any gold bars or diamond rings LOL

All the more reason to send those folks something to follow through. This may only be a public internet forum, but if you ever want anyone to really respect you on these boards you would come through for those people.

I have had positive buying and selling transactions on these boards.

    "Word is bond"

I wish I could say that to everyone who has broken promises to me but I get over it. image

Sh*t happens, as long as you give valid reason people should be understanding.

Why is it being sent as a gift?

I just wanted to say thanks for never returning my PM's earlier this year and late last year in regards to the card you owed me for my son. I know you also screwed LSUBill and some others too.

In regards to your thread....There is a great chance you can get screwed when making a purchase using the gift option in Paypal when buying from someone you don't know.

    good luck to ya!

I my dealings with you I would have settled for at least one PM back instead of just being ignored.

    Just sayin,
