Sam Bradford sets NFL record for guaranteed money in contract

#1 draft pick Sam Bradford has signed with the Rams for $78 million including $50 in guaranteed money, an NFL record.

    I wonder why the top picks ramp up so much compared to the middle of the first round and the rest of the draft (which seem to go much more incrementally). One bad pick and you are crippled for years.

    Exhibit "A" in support of the proposition that signing the #1 NFL draft pick [particularly if he is a QB] to a contract with large guaranteed money is extremely risky:

    I hope the Rams are going to spend at least a percentage of that amount on pass protection, too..
