TAXES. They almost TRIPLED property taxes in South and Southwest Fla.
I paid $350K for my previous house in Wellington and put 200K into it. That was 1999 before I moved to Asia. My property taxes were $3500 and my homeowners insurance was 3K.
In 2006 the house was 1.7 Million. Now? If the owners were selling I bet the asking price would be somewhere in the $550K range but it will be waiting a while for someone to pay the $14,000.00 in Prop Taxes and with that I guess the insurance would be in the 10K range.
They are crushing the market with taxes here in Fla.
