'71 Greatest Moments Set--Completed!!

well--I never thought that I would complete this set--and certainly did not think I would get to #7 Current Finest!!

This is an extremely tough set to finish in any grade. The prices for PSA-7 cards are high and for PSA-8--RIDICULOUS! But I set aside my love for vintage unopened--and after finishing my favorite set ever--the '61 Fleer Basketball and 2nd fav--the '64 Stand Ups--started to concentrate on this great set several months ago. Picked up a nice lot in a Heritage auction and went from there. Very proud of this accomplishment--I mean it is not Crandall worthy--but it is quite a feat!

Pepitone was the last card. And for anyone who is trying this set--forget about VCP!

Not sure I will upgrade from here. But the extras have allowed me to start a 2nd set which is currently #14...so I'll work on that one.

Here is a link if anyone is interested and someday--time permitting--I'll post scans.

Ciao!

Manny

you ain't kiddin a tuf set. Tuff cards....Pepitone...VCP in PSA-7 is $100. Last 2 sold for $350 plus...and they do not come up often. Melton is also a tough card in PSA-7...ANY card in PSA-8 of course. Wilhelm and other low # cards in PSA-7 are tuff, as are Jim Perry, Jim Fregosi, Fritz Peterson, and of course the last card--Bud Harrleson. Reggie is also tuff...in PSA-7.

Finally, no Anthony-I do not think I will ever find a pack. If anyone would have it it's you!.

Congrats!!!! When I think of that set my head tilt slightly.....Topps real made some diamond cut cards....my favorite part of the set is the use of the real city newspapers..on the Brooks card they use "the Baltimore Sun"....I use to deliver that paper as a kid. Congrats again on a great set.

Crazy tough set, indeed!! I think most people would be shocked to compare VCP vs SMR...not even close! This set is big coin and kudos to you for getting it complete!!! I have been jonesing for a PSA 7 Wilhelm to upgrade my PSA 6. PSA 7 SMR = $95, the last couple to sell are over $300.

Congrats again on a very nice set!

Congrats. That is quite an accomplishment. I know for my Cardinals team set, it took me forever to find those and ANY grade. Luckily, I found them in high mid grade. (Gibson, Brock, Cepeda, and McCarver).

Manny, I really doubt a pack exists. I've seen the box (it didn't meet reserve in Mastro/Legendary last year) but never seen a wrapper, let alone a pack.
And there have been a few uncut sheets offered as well.
