Is a hitting streak broken when the player gets a day off?

SF's super rookie Buster Posey has a 16 game hitting streak, but he's getting the day off today. Does that snap the streak?

I didn't realize this. Has this ever happened during a prominent streak?
<< <i><<<The streak also continues if the hitter is walked, HBP or sacrifice bunts in his at bats (ex: 4 ABs and the hitter gets 3 walks and a sac bunt will leave the hitting streak intact). Sacrifice flies will end a hitting streak, however.>>>

I didn't know that either...???
If that is true then that is something none of us or at least most of us have never heard. I thought if you appeared in a game it is plain and simple....a game played.
Can you let me know where you got that info from.
Thanks,

Major League Baseball rules... I'll research it and give you the specific rule, but for some odd reason, I'm one of those folks that reads things (at least those that I care about) and has them stuck in my head forever.
I recall it coming into question one point during Pete Rose's streak as he had walked his first couple of plate appearance and had hit a sac fly. He eventually got a hit to extend the streak, but there was some debate about what would happen if he had been walked the rest of his at bats.
From the Official Rules of Major League Baseball,
Official Rules: 10.00 The Official Scorer
revert to subsection:
10.23 Guidelines For Cumulative Performance Records
(a) CONSECUTIVE HITTING STREAKS. A consecutive hitting streak shall not be terminated if a batter’s plate appearance results in a base on balls, hit batsman, defensive interference or obstruction or a sacrifice bunt. A sacrifice fly shall terminate the streak.
(b) CONSECUTIVE-GAME HITTING STREAKS. A consecutive-game hitting streak shall not be terminated if all of a batter's plate appearances (one or more) in a game result in a base on balls, hit batsman, defensive interference or obstruction or a sacrifice bunt. The streak shall terminate if the player has a sacrifice fly and no hit.
That's awesome. Very interesting rule. I'm surprised it's never talked about. I guess because no one will approach Joltin Joe. Rose was getting there.
Thanks Scott and good research,

<< <i>And personally, no statistic should reference streaks that occur over 2 seasons. >>
Carl Hubbell hates you for this.

I think that would make a streak all that more impressive.
You take a player who's "in the zone" at the end of a season, takes 6 months off, then comes back to the field and continues to be "in the zone."
