Finally filled that gap in my collection.

Took me 4 years, the 1881-S half sovereign with the crenulated reverse, 9 known examples, only 1 other example (slightly better) has appeared on the market since the Reserve Bank of Australia released their gold stock (which accounts for 4 of them), it was the finest from the RBA holdings, graded aVF, sold in July 2009 at the Quartermaster sale, started at $1500 if I remember right, no other room bidders, I put my card up, and 1 other bidder chased me up to $3500 where I let it go. Finally got another chance, a Fine example for $200 on eBay with 50 seconds to go, 1 bidder chased it up by $10 at a time, then finally $1700 on the last minute.
