Can anyone help me with dating these two coins from Japan?

I have these two coins from Japan and want to be sure that I am reading the dates correctly. I believe the 10 Sen is year 30 and the 20 Sen is year 31, am I right?

Many thanks in advance.

The 10 sen is year 30 and the 20 sen year 31. That would make them 1897 and 1898. I do not have my Krause handy for prices.

I really like the 20 sen pieces, by the way. There is something about the size that draws me. I don't know that I can really explain it.

No need to try to explain it, I undertsand such mysteries of the collector's mind.

Don't tell the one coin that you're dating the other.

And don't tell your wife about either. image

I think she suspects something. I was able to explain away the the magazines and auction catalogs that show up in the mail. I told her that I needed to be away last weekend "on business" when really I was working a coin show, she bought that. But yesterday she found an empty 2x2 holder (that wasn't her's) in the back seat of the car!

No, I've known it for years. Just needs to be restated once in a while.
