Meltdown... (UPDATED)

I'm a pretty big yard & estate sale fan. I like to go "treasure" hunting on the weekends.
I dig just about anything old or collectable. I make a fair amount of fun money re-selling some of the stuff I find.
I'm always finding small sterling jewelry items or chains for a quarter or a buck.

Today I packed up the haul I've found over the last few months and am sending it to Midwest Refineries out of Michigan.
I figure after shipping, I will have $15-$20 bucks into all of this. It should net me about $100 after it all gets melted.
And I'll go buy myself some "real" silver with the proceeds. image

So... I did a little better than I expected on the weight. The sterling coasters were a bit of a gamble.
I bought them for $3 at a garage sale. They were not stamped sterling, only "made in England" but they
looked right to me.... it paid off - the 3 of them together weighed in around 6 ounces. image

I bought myself a couple 5oz Sunshine mint ingots with the proceeds.

    Very cool!

I go hunting every week and sometimes find a nice handful of silver and sometimes gold. All the silver I get goes into a box and when it fills up it gets dumped away into a bigger box. I think I have 4 decent sized boxes now, and a small container of gold... Most weeks it's only a few dollars so I won't miss the money too much, but I think it's a neat way to save my money.

I've given thought about converting it into .999 bars since it won't take nearly as much space as scrap sterling would, but have always talked myself out of it as I'd be losing a chunk during the conversion.

I've noticed lately that there is nearly no gold out there to be had. I don't know whether to blame it on the economy or the "Cash for gold" people.

Thanks for sharing - like Weiss said, keep us posted as I love reading about other people's finds!

    Excellent!

I have one of the 5oz eagle style rounds but I think those bars look better.
