I screwed up, didn't I?

I received a $200 PSA graded card in the mail, and the case was mangled. The card looked all right, so I just shipped it off to PSA for a reholder.

But I could get screwed, huh? PSA might regrade that card lower, and I'm then SOL.

Should I have sent it back to the seller and asked for a refund?

How do you folks handle that situation? From a seller's side, and the buyer's.

    You may have handled it just fine. For a card that expensive, I am sure it must of had insurance, right? However, postal insurance is not easy to collect. The post office has to determine if the packaging was done correctly. There is no oversight or third party to make that determination, so the post office can usually get away with simply stating that the item was packaged insufficiently. While insurance is for the original seller to collect and then use it to refund your money, sometimes it does not work that way.
    Its easier for the package to be lost--then the post office has to refund because there is no room for an excuse of insufficient packaging.

    You could have also brought this up with the seller directly and worked with him in some way. If he was uncooperative, a Significantly Not As Described claim can be filed via paypal, if that's how you paid.

    This is just my 2 cents. I hope it works out for you (and it very well might).

    SOM,

    On a re-holder PSA does not pass judgement on the grade of the card. It is just removed, a new flip and case issued. However, if the case was so damaged that the card could be removed from the case, then I think they will send it back to you and tell you it needs to be sent in for grading.

    How bad was the case and could you remove the card?

    Yes, DG...I forgot to add, that the card was insured, and indeed, I decided that the grief of filing a claim was not worth it. The seller started the process, but I aborted it.

    We shall see, Jeff. I'll let you know.
