SAd day for Yankees fans and baseball....

I always love the following comment:

Sheppard's first game as the Yankee Stadium public address announcer came April 17, 1951. The first player he introduced was DiMaggio -- Dom, the Red Sox center fielder. His debut coincided with Mantle's big-league debut. (Coincidentally, the two also shared a birthday, Oct. 20.)

"Mickey arrived with slightly more fanfare," Sheppard liked to say.

My first game at Yankee Stadium in 1976 is full of memories of "that voice" cascading around and through the air. Unforgettable. image

Sheppard was truly a legend. Sad day for Yanks fans.

Not to get off-topic, but that lady in San Francisco has to go. Not being sexist, but IMO it just doesn't sound right hearing a woman's voice over the PA.

Holy Crap, I had no idea he was 99. I knew he had been doing this at least since 1987 (the first year I saw a game at Yankee Stadium) but had no idea it was MUCH longer than that!!

    RIP indeed.

If Vin Scully lives to be 110, the day he passes will still be very sad -- at this point most of us think Scully will live forever!
