Lebron will play ARod to Wade's Jeter . . . While it may be an interesting trio, they still only play with one ball and there are 5 guys on the court and another 7 on the bench. The Heat may have to find some NBADL imports to fill their roster at league minimums...

Like the sport but not a big NBA fan ... but wondering if the # 1, 4 and 5 pick from the same draft ever played together on the same team.

That is exactly what i thought. The biggest winner here is Wade. I made the exact same analogy to my buddy earlier today. Lebron just became the Arod of the nba. He will never be consider the greatest ever. Kobe is safe as the best post jordan player imo.

  • I'm not really a fan of any NBA team but am a fan of the game. My first reaction was that this would be entertaining to watch, but a feeling in my gut was telling me that he made the wrong choice. Cleveland, Chicago, or New York all made more sense.

It doesn't really matter to me where these spoiled brat rich kids play basketball, however the city of Cleveland needed Lebron. The city (I am in a suburb about 12 miles away) is just so economically depressed right now. Lebron brought people to the games, which meant people ate and drank at the downtown bars and restaurants, helping out many small businesses. Plus he gave the city an excitement it needed during some bad times. I know it is his right to play where he wants, but damn this is not going to be good for this city....

Grew up a Bulls fan and pretty much gave up on the NBA after Michael Jordan hung it up for good. Lebron got me interested in the NBA again... but not anymore. Still a Bulls fan... didn't want to see him go to Chicago either... really wanted him to stay in Cleveland.

I've got a authentic blue alternate Lebron James signed jersey from UDA that I've had stashed in a closet for the past few years. Planned to finally have it framed if he decided to stay with the Cavs. Not I'm not sure what to do with it! Wanna sell it, but who wants a Lebron signed Cavs jersey now???

At least he had the intelligence (or lack of compassion) to title his one hour special appropriately...

There was THE DRIVE... and then THE SHOT... now THE DECISION.

Sorry Cleveland Sports Fans... it's gotta suck... seriously, sorry image

Haven't heard any details of the contract, but I would expect an OPT OUT at 3 years so that Lebron can explore going to Brooklyn with the Nets.

I live in Orlando and have lived here my whole life. I have watched The Magic since 1989. This on one hand is good becuase we play The Heat alot, on the other hand this blows!! They are going to be very tough but only time will tell how three ego's of that magnitude will play together.

I'm really curious to see the dip in attendance... I'm sure most fans were waiting to renew season tickets until AFTER LBJ made his decision, at least lets hope so!

The guy who is the owner is probably about to commit suicide. First he gets nailed by the mortgage crisis and now the value of the franchise was just cut in half. Not good for him!!

No question he should have stayed in Cleveland. I have no vested interest in the matter, but I feel just awful for the city of Cleveland. He bailed on them before even bringing home the trophy, and now I have to hope he never wins one.

I was just thinking the same thing about Jamison. Hope it is not too late for Cleveland to find someone in free agency to help us. And in an attempt to keep this sports card related, my personal protest is to get rid of all my James cards. Granted I don't have a massive amount, maybe a dozen or so rookies, but I don't want them in my collection now....time for an ebay fire sale!

I agree completely! I haven't been around since 89, but more likely '99 (back when Darrell Armstrong was THE MAN haha) and I feel similarly. I look at it as though the way free agency is going the East is going to be tough no matter where Lebron went so it's not a huge deal. Chicago, Orlando, Miami, and Boston will all be VERY GOOD teams, squads like Atlanta and Charlotte keep getting better each year, and the Wizards have #1 pick John Wall to build around. the Southeast will be interesting!

Look at it this way...maybe tickets in the new arena will be a little cheaper on the second hand market now that many people will jump over to being Heat fans? image

Just saw on the news, the police are stationed outside his house because of possible threats...cars keep driving by screaming some not so flattering things. Also heard Cleveland Police have heavy patrols around the downtown bars. A nice little rain storm may keep the problems down.

I think his cards are done. I also posted this in the other forum. From what I can gather, whenever a player at the height of their talents voluntarily changes teams their hobby value is killed. If I was holding an '03 Exquisite right now I'd sell it in the next 48 hrs. and hope a drunk Heat fan wants to overpay.

  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
I think you may be right. There is no telling how much demand for his cards came from true Cleveland fans and Heat fans may be more interested in his first card in their jersey. I don't have any Lebron cards so I have no skin in the game here.

As a Bulls fan, my heart goes out to Cleveland. Total loss for the fans, and franchise. I'm sure the Cleveland season ticket holders are overjoyed. I wonder how Bulls fans would've felt about Jordan if he left in his prime. Thank God he didn't. Sorry Cleveland, Lebron hasn't won anything yet, and it's not certain he will in Miami. I thought his answer of "South Beach" was telling ... a fun place to be, but is it really a "basketball" destination? Time will tell.

Interesting that Lebron will have to play like Magic to make the Heat work. If he realizes that being the next Magic Johnson will get him the rings he so desires, he'll stop worrying about being the next MJ. Still, I'd take Kobe over Lebron . . .

it's just business people, geez......you go to work at a job that allows you to develop your skills so that someday maybe you can move on to a better job, because who wants to work in the same damn place in their prime when there might be an opportunity to experience better levels of success elsewhere???? Cleveland will be fine, in fact with a coach like B Scott, who took a nothing team in New Orleans to unmatched success, let's not jump off the bridge yet Ohio, now maybe you actually will get to watch a TEAM.

loyalty? peh. yeah, i'm disappointed in him, but not because he made a wise business decision, but because he allowed the stupid thing to become a friggin three-ringed circus with DecisionWater. my gawwwwd. image
  • Cleveland haters are such hypocrites. If he didn't live up to expectations all you so called "fans" would have turned on him and booed him. It is his life he should be able to play where the hell he wants.

Ha ha....cavs owner Dan Gilbert is NOT a happy camper. This is what is on the home page of the Cavaliers website. I guess the site could have been hacked and it is a fake letter, but from what I hear it has been up for some time now, if it was a hack it should have been taken down by now.

Open Letter to Fans from Cavaliers Majority Owner Dan Gilbert
    Print RSS Cavs Insider Discuss

    Dear Cleveland, All Of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Cavaliers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight;

As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.

This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his "decision" unlike anything ever "witnessed" in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.

Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.

The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.

There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.

You simply don't deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.

You have given so much and deserve so much more.

In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:

"I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE"

You can take it to the bank.

If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our "motivation" to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.

Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.

Sorry, but that's simply not how it works.

This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown "chosen one" sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And "who" we would want them to grow-up to become.

But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called "curse" on Cleveland, Ohio.

The self-declared former "King" will be taking the "curse" with him down south. And until he does "right" by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.

    Just watch.

    Sleep well, Cleveland.

Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day....

I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only:

DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue....

I think the owner of the Cavs should have taken a deep breath before writing that letter...he sounds bitter, petty and self-serving, IMO (Is he suggesting that the Cavs WEREN'T reeally trying to win when LeBron was there but now that he's gone they will try harder than they ever have? If so, no wonder why he left, LOL!)...I mean, geez, the guy was a free agent so why shouldn't he go wherever he wants to spend his future or the rest of his career...Does ownership show "loyalty" to players when they get injured or can no longer perform at the level their salary commands? A guy blows his knee out or suddenly can't break a tackle and he gets thrown onto the scrap heap. Professional sports is a business. I wouldn't harbor any ill will towards any player who wants to decide where his career should lead (even if I may be disappointed).

well, not really. I could care less. The Heat still needs to fill out their roster with selfless players who will average 2-4 PPG while the big three average 80-90 PPG. Good luck with that.

james is an immature person with a huge ego. he could never be a leader in cleveland which eventually led to their demise in playoff games.

the cavs ownership tried to build a team around him but never really got the right mix.

the fact that there was even a lebron-athon where he considered himself so important to have his decision televised was a joke. anyone who watched that thing should never complain about soccer, golf, tennis, nascar, the home run hitting contest, the nfl pro bowl, the hot dog eating contest, wnba or poker being televised. as much as i am not a fan of several of those activities, feeding the ego a consistent playoff choker is something i would never view.

i hope this does not lead to a string of other free agent televised press contests.
