Is Joey Votto the biggest All Star snub of all time?

The rosters are like 34 guys deep on both teams now (which dilutes it to begin with), but how does the guy who should WIN THE MVP in the league right now not make the All Star Team? He's top 5 in every Triple Crown Category and leading the league in OPS. Am I insane here???

Yes he got screwed but they can not carry 4 first basemen.
<< <i>He is hurt by being a first baseman. Even with the casual fan Pujols, Howard and Fielder have been known throughout baseball for years now. How many people outside Cincy, fantasy baseball nerds or the card collecting community knew who Votto was before this season?

Yes, I get that...doesn't answer the question though. Has there ever been a bigger snub? Has a guy who should win his league's MVP at the halfway point ever been left off the team by the voters AND managers?

Wouldn't help Votto.
The All Star game is nothing more than an exhibition game for the fans. If more baseball fans wanted to see Votto play 1st instead of Pujols, Fielder or Howard he would be on the team. His only chance would be the manager or the last guy in vote. Again, from a manager's standpoint, no point in adding a 4th first baseman.
It's more a lack of popularity of the player than it is a snub.

1935 Hank Greenberg is the ultimate snub.
He had about 25 100 300 at the break.
Votto is deserving, don't get me wrong, but year after year we hear of someone getting snubbed.

Not like this though. This is at least the worst in recent memory. Seriously - he would be the MVP if the vote were held right now. Cincinnati is nowhere near the lead in that division without him, plus the crazy good numbers.

Seriously. That is one stupid rule. Looking back at some of the "all star" baseball cards, over the years, is funny.

Greenberg was snubbed many times for being Jewish. When he had the 58 HR's going into the final 5 games he walked like 15 times or something very close to that number.
1984 Oakland A's
23 HR
71 RBIs
.270 Batting Average
No All-Star selection

LSU - you are correct. Most people outside of Cincinnati or card collectors didn't really know who Votto was before this year.
I hope Votto takes this slight and rachets it up another gear for the 2nd half of the season. Honestly, I don't care if any Reds make the All-Star Game......I want another Championship.
GO REDS.

I don't know, only I wouldn't say it was him if the voting was done today.
You have a pitcher at 14 and 1.............
Pujols
et al.
Don't get me wrong, the guy is having a career year but let's not get ahead of ourselves here.
I simply answered your question, you asked if it was the greatest snub of all time and IMO it wasn't.
