Long way to go yet though, but the Braves are winning their close games and the Phillies are losing their close games, and that's usually the difference in a pennant race.

Steve, although that's probably the way it feels since your Phillies are struggling right now, their records in one run games are almost the same:
Braves 13-12
Phillies 10-9

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Doug - This is another example of how stats can be misleading. It's "how" those one run games are won or lost is what's important. If the Braves have a big lead, and the opposing team rallies but falls short by one run, that's a one run win...but if the Phillies have a big lead and the opposing team rallies and wins by one run, that's a one run loss. There's a difference, not in the won-loss record for one run games, but how a team responds late in the game when games are on the line. The Braves have been doing whatever it takes to win, and the Phillies right now are not doing that. It's about getting key hits at the right time, it's about pitchers stepping it up at the right time, and other factors as well.
Unfortunately, the Phillies may not have it this season - I haven't given up, not unless it's obvious they will be mathematically eliminated, but the Phils are not doing right now what a pennant winning team needs to do.

Steve ... I don't follow EVERY game of those teams that closely (I don't follow every game of ANY team that closely). I guess you do, so I will leave it at that and agree with what you said!

I'm running for Vice President of the Sports Talk forum. I don't know who the president is, but I was told the position was filled.

Doug - I've seen so many pennant races over the years, I can usually see them developing a mile away. It's sorta like a horse race,..if ya know the horses in the race and how they run, it's not hard to predict the winner about 1/4 into the race...sometimes ya can know the winner just a hundred yards out of the starting gate. Knowing that the Phillies have been in the WS the past few seasons, and knowing how hard it is for professional athletes to turn up the adrenaline every season, as well as knowing that the Braves and Mets were tired of being doormats lately and perhaps wanted to do something about it, puts the Phillies in a very precarious situation right now, and I'm not sure there is anything that can be done about it this season.
Of course the bookies won't allow ya to bet after the race is off. LOL
