VCP help needed on '52 Topps Mantle

Need this in 8, 8.5, and 9. Not sure how many of these have sold in this high of grade so if anyone has a conservative guesstimate of how much an 8.5 would fetch I'd greatly appreciate it.

A little background info. for all the doubters like Bill, I stopped in at a pawn shop on the way back from vacation and the owner who had an impressive collection said he had a '52 Mantle PSA 8.5 that he'd sell for $32,000. I'm not familiar with the card because I've never been in the market for one but that is a $100,000 card isn't it? Of course he's probably full of s#@$ but he had several t206's and a lot of nice vintage sets. He said he'd be glad to let me see it. Checking the pop report, it's a pop 1.

In an 8.5, you are correct...that card is probably every bit of $75,000 easy and more than likely should bring over $100,000 in one of the big auction houses. I would check to make sure it wasn't a CL fake........and if it wasn't, buy it as fast as you can!

I'm pretty sure the OP only uses VCP to tell people on the BST board when they have their cards priced too high.

PSA 8s go for about $80,000 so please please please buy the 8.5 for $32,000.

    Pretty please.

I didn't feel the need to keep my subscription when I completed my '67 sets so I just thought I'd ask for the boards' help since I always give VCP help to those that ask. Thanks for the help.

There is currently 1 PSA 8.5 graded to date, and it resides in this registry set, so again I say please go right now and buy that pawn shop's 8.5 for $32,000. You will not regret it.

thank you for the investigation work, now I don't have to call him and ask to see the 8.5 other than me just wanting to see if he has a craigslist fake or something else entirely. Odds are that he will tell me that he has decided not to sell it if I call about it.

You are the moral compass of this board. Quick to defend the common man from being forced to buy a card off the BST board that you have deemed unworthy, but willing to fall on your sword to buy a $80000 card for $32000. I shall call you Robin Hood.

Tommy will eventually come to his senses and realize he should be pursuing the Strasburg 1/1 BGS 9.5 Autofractors which have reportedly surfaced in Arkansas, Paraguay, Greenland and Senegal.

Jeff, you are correct. The ones in Paraguay, Greenland, and Senegal are all grossly overpriced BIN's, but the one in Arkansas may be a deal.

It's probably already had someone wipe their ass with it and it's an 8 (ST).

    On a more serious note,
was the guy blowing smoke, or was he serious? If the card is registered on the Psa set registry is it the pawn shop owners card that he registered?

not sure Ryan, but I'm betting he is probably blowing smoke. When I looked and saw it was a pop 1 I had my doubts but I highly doubt he has it registered so he is most likely FOS. He did have some nice mid grade vintage sets and a lot of t206's in the store though so it could be possible.
