The Atlanta Hawks....

Are going to offer Joe Johnson a 6 year.....$119 MILLION DOLLAR deal to stay?????????????? imageimageimageimageimageimageimage

As a Hawk fan I am just stunned, shocked, confused and ready to change my loyalty to another team. Most non NBA fans probably don't know his name. NBA enthusiasts will tell you he may not even be the best player on the team at this point!!! They barely beat the Bucks in the 1st round and got killed by Orlando in the second round this past season. They lost one game by one of the biggest margins ever in a playoff game!!!!!!!! They fired their coach(Mike Woods) after the season, stating they needed someone that has "fresh ideas"....but then hired the assistant coach(Larry Drew)?? They got a (potential) fairly nice player in the Draft, but then wasted a 2nd round pick on someone who will never play in the league(something called a "Papa Siy"from Senegal.) Oh and by the way...the ownership group has been thinking of selling the team for the last few years. Nice going idiots!!! image

Not a great player whatsoever. Good player. Problem is the going rate is 15-20 million. This is an NBA problem.

The NBA is outpricing alot of it's fans unless your name is Jack Nicholson.

If Joe Johnson signs a 6 year contract that pays him close to $20 million per year, just think what the market price for Le Bron James will be when teams starting making him contract offers. Same with Dwayne Wade.

baseball, you are correct....current max deals are in the neighborhood $23-$24m per year, I believe.

If they want to stay relevant, Atlanta kind of has to pay Johnson that money. He'll never lead them to a title, but at least he'll keep the seats filled.

Keep the seats filled?? image This is the guy that said during the 2nd round of the playoffs the he could "care less if they show up" for the game!!! He is not a fan favorite whatsoever at this point. And if they want to fill seats....how about signing a guy like Shaq??? Yeah, he's almost done with his career, but I know a TON of people that still show up to see him play. Or maybe they could get Boozer or Amare'. I just think they are making a huge mistake. It's probably not going to matter. For the next few years we will win 50 or so games each season, get into the playoffs, then get destroyed by the Boston, Orlando, Miami.....(fill in the blank), etc.. image

    J. Johnson is a good player, but the problem is that you get into trouble when you give max contracts to good players and not great ones.

I hope they do it. They'll suck in the future, and it'll start the ball rolling towards all the free agents staying put and taking max deals.

In 1994, my season tickets were $35/seat. Lower level, at the free throw line, 4 rows back. Absolutely awesome seats.
    1995 $50
    1996 $75
    1997 - 2000 $100
    2001 - 2003 $175

After 20+ years, we decided not to renew our tickets. Paying $14K plus parking, concessions, etc just wasn't worth it. Last I heard, those seats are now +/- $225 each.
