News Flash! Stolen 1795 and 1796 Silver Dollars (from D.C. Coin Dealer) recovered in Westchester NY

News release-Stolen 1790's silver dollars recovered in New York

The Jewelry store owner became suspicious when the sellers of the coins did not know much about the two silver dollars worth $40,000.

    Good possibility that these thieves will be prosecuted under the New York persistent felon laws, that will provide a mandatory life sentence if convicted. They could even be prosecuted at the Federal level, since interstate transportation of stolen goods taken in the commission of a robbery is a Federal felony.

    Unless we know exactly who they were 'strong armed' (robbery) from,
    how do we know they are real, and not Chinese counterfeits???

    They were from the Capitol Coin robbery in DC a few weeks ago.
    PNG member, numismatic dealer since 1965. Operates a retail store, also has exhibited at over 1000 shows.
    I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.
