would buying certified Saints sort of be the best of both worlds? Feed both wants? I guess I'm talking about only owning 3-4 examples and then going back to my buying 1/4 oz a month.

Aside from my UHR, I'd never owned a saint before this year--and I've been a coin collector for 35 years. Now I've got a couple and got *this* close to pulling the trigger on another yesterday. Here's the one I got earlier this month:

Yes unless you are talking high grades where there is a significant premium over bullion value.
