Wax on my Mantle

My '65 Mantle has a small amount of wax on the left border and on the shoulder. I've read here about using a nylon to remove wax. Do you recommend I do it to this card? Will it damage it and could PSA give it a "altered" tag if detected? As you can tell I've never done this before and want to make sure it will work. Since it's not high grade I may just leave it. Thoughts? Thanks. Doug

make sure you have card on a flat flat surface and do not use your nails to do scraping, let the nylon do it and rub in circular motion

pantyhose stocking works perfectly because there is absolutely nothing abrasive. It will wipe that wax right off without damage to the card.

I use a hair dryer to heat it up then wipe off with a kleenex. The hair dryer softens it so you dont scratch the card.

Make sure your wife is not wearing the pantyhose when you try this. Works better that way.

Used dryer sheets work very well too. Circular motion for sure and take your time.

Use a used dryer sheet...works great!! It may not be super-high grade but it looks good to me.

Thanks guys, funny stuff and good advice. I'll try and avoid "fresh breeze scent" dryer sheets and look for "musty attic scent". Also will make sure my wife isn't wearing the nylons.

This may help in showing you how to get the wax off.

EDITED TO ADD: The nylons really work well. It's pretty EZ to do. I agree with the others ... take the wax off and your grade will be higher.

Let me emphasize two points already made:

1. put the card on a hard, flat, smooth surface
2. put the pantyhose or nylon stocking (they're smaller) over your finger and use the FLESHY PART OF YOUR FINGER-the part with the fingerprints on it to rub the card with
