hypothetical PCGS or NGC guarantee scenario.

...you purchase a coin graded, say, a 67. you look at it when it arrives and you see many carbon spots. you

feel the coin shouldn't have been assigned a 67 grade with the spots and figure the spots probably developed

AFTER the coin was slabbed. you decide to contact the TPG and ask to be made whole. will they downgrade and

reimburse you the difference? would you have the option to request another coin that is indeed a 67 (no spots)

instead of the money adjustment? just wondering and i'm curious if anyone has actually done this. thanks. image

    I'm curious too.
That's exactly the scenario I have.
I should have sent it back when I got it years ago but oh well.

...yeah, i thought others may be able to relate to this situation. i'm very curious. in my case, i would love to be able

to get another "67" without spots as an exchange if that was at all possible. IF i was in this position. like i said

    this is hypothetical.

Ive had that happen twice with NGC. First time it was a 1961 franklin proof graded at PF-67 ultra cameo. The coin developed milk spots on the reverse so i sent it back. They offered to down grade the coin and pay the difference, get me a new coin, or just buy it back. I took the money and they kept the coin. Second time the exact same thing but it was a 62 franklin proof and the same grade. I bought it from teletrade and when i got it in hand noticed a large milk spot also on the reverse. That time i had them replace it and they replaced with a monster ultra cameo which made me super happy image
  • It depends on the coin. If the coin is super rare that may impact your choice
