Hey guys, in spirit of the baseball thread I wanted to start a football one. It can be vintage or modern what is your all-time favorite set?

    1955 Topps All-American.

A childhood favorite. Colorful wrapper, colorful cards. Most of the greatest names in football to that point in time. Loved the team logos.

From day to day this may change, but for most days I would answer 1951 Bowman.

I saw your custom All-Americans, you did a great job on those.

    1976 Topps--purely for nostalgic sentiment.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

For me, its the 1951 Bowman set. I am currently building it in SGC 7-8 range. I am at about 82% on it with about 30 cards left to pick up. I love the artistry of the set....great player selection and reasonable prices makes for a great set to build.

  • Big Daddy Bowman makes a strong case for 1951 Bowman. For me, cards generally look better in SGC holders too. Very nice stuff there, as usual. '51s are among my top few faves and probably second-best to me.

1952 Bowman Large remain my favorite as the best-looking set of football cards. The Sammy Baugh is one of the set's best.

I personally like 1989 and 1990 Pro set and Score. Even thought they are not worth anything (except 1989 Score) They are great looking and have a lot of really cool cards.

Probably 1984 Topps. How could you not like a set with Elway and Marino RC's?
  • 1951 Bowman followed by '57 Topps.

My favorite is the '72 Topps. First year I collected and for several years didn't know there was a third series. Collecting the third series was like going back in time to my first packs. I own the set raw and am always on the lookout to upgrade. Tony

I really love the vintage material. The 1951 and 1952 Bowman issues are stellar and I've just started to delve into the Mayos and Chicle sets, but for me, even though they're not the most appealing, the 1948 Leaf Football Set is still my favorite.

Honorable mentions go to NM or better of the following:

    1951 Bowman
1958 Topps (when they're minty fresh and void of print issues -- they gorgeous in their simplicity)

    1969 Topps
    1971 Topps

I always liked the 1960 Topps set because it was the first football set I ever collected and also the set with the stars around the borders with the white backgrounds...can't remember the year of the second set off the top of my head......al.

I agree. I loved the 90 Proset. That was the first year I bought football cards, and I spent months completing that set one box at a time.

I really like the 1962 Topps set, for the same reason I like 1971 Topps Baseball, impossibly tough black borders!
