Home Buy, Sell & Trade - Cards & Memorabilia

NOT TO OFFEND ANYONE, BUT I REALLY HATE....

SORRY ABOUT THIS POST HERE, BUT I JUST FELT LIKE DOING A LITTLE BI*CHING TODAY!! IT REALLY SICKENS ME HOW THE CARD COMPANIES ARE BUYING UP ALL THIS MEMORABILIA JUST SO THEY CAN DESTROY IT AND USE IT TO HELP SELL THEIR CARDS FOR $30 A PACK. FOR INSTANCE, BABE RUTH BAT CARDS...ONCE THEY BUY ONE OF HIS BATS AND CUT IT INTO 100,000 PIECES, IT WILL NEVER BE AROUND FOR US TO ENJOY AGAIN. THESE COMPANIES ARE ABSOLUTELY DESTROYING PIECES OF HISTORY THAT CAN NEVER BE REPLACED. YEAH, IT'S NICE THAT THOSE OF US WHO CAN'T AFFORD AN ENTIRE BAT/JERSEY/JOCKSTRAP OF A DECEASED LEGEND, CAN MAYBE GET A PIECE OF ONE IN A PACK OF CARDS. WHAT'S NEXT??? MOST OF US CAN'T AFFORD A T206 WAGNER EITHER, SO WHAT SHOULD WE DO.....CUT ONE INTO HUNDREDS OF LITTLE PIECES SO THAT MORE PEOPLE HAVE A SHOT TO OWN ONE???? JUST LIKE THE MEMORABILIA THAT THEY ARE DESTROYING.....IT THEN BECOMES WORTHLESS!! THIS STUFF HAS BEEN AROUND FOR DECADES AND NOW CARD COMPANIES COME AND DESTROY SOME OF THE BEST STUFF SO THAT OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN WON'T BE ABLE TO SEE IT AND ENJOY IT! ANYWAY, I JUST HAD TO GET THAT OFF MY CHEST TODAY. YOU CAN NOW GO BACK TO YOUR DAY!! THANKS FOR LISTENING!! TIM

  • PRO, why should it bother you? Majority of us will never ever own anything like that or even get to see it in-person. When we die, we can't take anything with us, so this gives people a chance to see and own a piece of it. When we die, we won't care. Memorabilia pieces come and go. Memories last forever.

Vintage I have a problem with the new stuff I do not. Cobbs and the Ruth items are treasures, now they are scraps.

Yep. Just like if I had a choice between a Ruth bat that was worth thousands or a photograph of my great, great, great, great, grandfather, which one would I choose. The photograph has no market value, but to me, that would be priceless (because it's something I would remember for the rest of my life). I know I couldn't afford a Ruth bat and if I did have one, I would immediately sell it in an auction for the money. Money comes and goes. "Memories: Priceless. For everything else, use your Mastercard."
  • lol, i get what your saying but...are you sure they had photographs back then? ummm Just kiddin' Chris image

  • I am still not 100% sure if these Game Used Jersey Bat's etc. are even originals, I know they say it is. But I dont believe it for some reason
  • I agree that they should be cut up because they are a piece of history and now, since they cut em up, they are shreads.

  • The Honus Wagner idea is pretty good lol. Hey man I pulled a sliver of a T206 Wagner.
ANyone ever read the book "The Trading Game" ?
Its about a boy whos fater has a great card collection including a Mantle rookie. But the card the boy really wants is a card of his grandfather from the 40's. He was only on one rare card but it is only worth like $20. (This is before the days of E-Bay) Any way his friend actually finds a card of his grandfather and makes him give him the Mantle rookie for it. And things get sticky from there
