Stupid Question about Kitco Silver Chart

dontippetdontippet Posts: 2,606 ✭✭✭✭
I have noticed that the Kitco three day chart has its bid price stated with three digits behind the decimal point. For example, the current bid is 18.590. Does anybody know why it goes three digits behind the decimal point?

I don't know. I could see where a 1,000 ounce contract could trade out to three decimal points, where each .001 is worth an even dollar, but that is just a guess on my part.

COMEX silver futures have a $.005 minimum price fluctuation. Also, after normal trading hours, there are currency calculations made that could bring it to an extra digit (although that's pretty silly, as the difference between currency bids/asks and costs involved would likely outweigh the advantage of the extra digit). And the LBMA also uses an extra decimal place (I'm not sure why that is, though).
