1991 Playball, Petro Canada and 64 Topps Stand Ups.

Need a little help figuring this one out?

1991 pop report lists "1991 Playball" but only Griffey Jr and Will Clark listings. Big book has no listing for Playball but does list Petro Canada.

Card says both PlayBall and Petro Canada? Are these the same issue?

Does PSA grade this issue if different? Since no "Petro Canada" graded yet and they resemble the 1964 Topps Standups...Why grade one and not the other?

...then, should they be opened? Are the 64 Standups opened; and graded as Supersized or Tall Boys?

Thanks, Mike

These are different issues. The 1991 PlayBall was supposedly a prototype effort by Rob Broder to gain MLB/MLBPA licenses. (It didn't pan out.) I believe there were three or four players in that prototype issue, but I don't recall the others. They used to be listed in the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards, but haven't been for several editions.

Ok, thanks. That is what I thought but couldn't confirm.

Now on to part two of the question...are they similar to the 64 Topps standups and should they be "opened" and be graded?

    Thanks, Mike

I would not suggest opening the cards. Actually, it would be impossible for PSA to grade the cards once they've been opened because they are designed to be "stand-ups." I think I have a picture of one thats been opened and I'll post in a few minutes I can find it. But, I would just submit unopened if you want it graded at PSA.

PSA says they won't grade them unopened because the pictures and stats are not visable? Wierd?
