1958 Topps Ted Williams

I was looking through eBay and then checking prices on the 1958 Topps Ted Williams regular and All Star card. I figured that it would be reasonably affordable but to my astonishment this card is extremely expensive.
What gives? I think this is his last regular issue but is it shortprinted? Hard to find in HG?

Any help would be appreciated.

The regular card is the first card in the set and will increase the value in higher grades. The All Star is the only All Star card appearance of Williams and compared to the price of the triple print Mantle and the Aaron and Mays it's not that expensive. If you don't have them already you can pick up a whole set of 1959 Fleer less#68 in above average shape for about the price of a #1 1958 Williams PSA 7.

Saw this thread and I thought you were talking about this card:

I wish that bottom left corner was a little sharper, this would be an 8 - for sure.
  • It is common for this card (#1) to have a huge registration problem, leaving poor Ted's face out of focus. Also, as mentioned, being the first card of the set doesn't help overall condition.
