I am done with any grading service

I don't care if PSA BGS BCCG GAI. I sold too many PSA 9's on eBay for like 0.99 or sometimes buck or 2. I have seen PSA 10 sold for 0.99.
It just wasting money. Sometimes making some. PSA charging too much plus high $$$ shipping cost.

If you get 99 cent cards graded, then maybe a grading service is a waste. I would think that collectors of vintage HOFers might disagree about the value of the PSA grading.

A simple solution would be to grade cards of value. Too many people incorrectly assume that getting a PSA 9 or a PSA 10 assures them of getting value in return. That is not the case, especially with modern material. Speculation and/or lack of knowledge is a dangerous thing. Information and market analysis in advance of grading will net you a more positive experience.

I am sorry to hear your sentiment. It is a reflection of the market righ now. Please remember that this a hobby
for your average collector and nothing more. I would disagree about PSA charging too much, at least for
modern specials at 5-6 a pop.

I collect because I enjoy collecting sportscards and If I happen to make a little money, it is gravy !

Why would you even start such cards at .99?

I'd rather take my chances and start them at a level where I at the least broke even.

If they don't sell I still have them.

Or you could always start them at .99 and charge 6.00 shipping but you would then be

the subject of a thread here.

Agreed with Scott. Just because it is graded, and graded a 10, does not necessarily add value. Especially on anything from the last 30 years.
IMO your best bet is to sign up for vcp, and check to see if anything you wish to grade has sold in excess of the value of the raw card plus grading fees.

I agree with the other board members. I make bad decisions at times also. You should only grade cards worth enough money. If you want to grade inexpensive cards, then it should be for your collection, but you must understand that it may not be a good investment. Change your mindset, and go back to enjoying the hobby!!!!!!!!!

Sure it is, if ya don't know the market value of the various cards you got graded and sold. One thing about ebay, not in every case, but for the most part it is a brutally honest assessment of what the value is on collectibles. When ya know the marketplace, there is no doubt, not even debatable that PSA can and does add value, and sometimes much more value to a card.

So rather than be "done with any grading service" my advice would be to educate yourself more about card values before "wasting money".

It was a near perfect set of 1982 Kmart anniversary cards from a factory fresh case. Found a great deal at a show for only 25 cents a set. With only a $300 investment in grading per set and pulling $75-$100 out of tens that would make $3000-$4000 profit per set. After just 2 cases the quest for T206 Wagner would be complete.

Exactly. If you are grading cards to make money then you better know what the market is for the cards you are grading!

I have had a ton of cards graded that aren't worth the grading fee but I enjoy having my cards in PSA cases. A waste of money or adding to my collection depending on how one looks at it. If I ever sell my collection then I guess it was a waste.

I think I might try coin grading. I just saw where a graded coin sold for $7.8 million. I have big jug full of coins. Are they expensive to grade? Is there anything not worth sending in?

Why does anyone slab low value commons?
Because of the registry, and when it goes its path (demand fades), all those commons will be worth a fraction of what it costs to slab them.

Since day 1, Ive always wondered why someone would pay more than a cards worth to have it slabbed.

Original reason for a slab..... to protect the more valuable card, and to protect someone from overpaying on a tampered with card or fake.
....... Not to protect a low value Biff Pocoroba, Mark Lemongello, or Don Mossi.

I'm trying out my hand at a new hobby as well- rehabbing vintage cars. I've been working on a 1986 Ford Taurus the past couple months. I'm about $8500 into it but it's gonna be like brand new when I'm done!!!

I've done quite well the last few years grading overproduced modern junk. Just have to know what junk to sub. I swing and miss more than I hit homeruns but the homeruns always more than compensate for the K's.

Actually a smart move...i think there are many out there who are willing to pay big money to relive the experience of when they drove a rental car from Avis.

On Howard Stern the other day Bigfoot explained how he made money by selling cigarettes at 35-50 cents a pop. Pretty lucrative until he said he paid $12 a pack. He had no grading fees to pay so he did do better than many modern submitters.
