Weight of 90% circulated coins

Hello Everyone

I'm curious to know the groups' experience with how much weight a typical 90% silver coin will loose to circulation.. say in th VG to VF range. I just weighed a couple of WLH's and they weigh in at ~12.0 grams... they should weigh 12.5 gr. I found a link to a previous thread on this website: previous thread but it didn't really give a lot of information on halves and dollars. Does anyone have a collection of VG halves? AND.. have you weighed them? Just curious...

I have always read people claim they dont lose any weight but I have some heavy circulated barber quarters that are down about 10% in weight,

I had a bunch of Barber Dimes in G condition...and let me tell ya, there is a huge difference in the way they look in comparison to MS. They are really thin dimes at that point. I have not weighed them but it has to be a significant difference.

When 90% is traded in bulk quantity, such as $1000 face, most dealers have an understanding that dimes lose more weight by percentage than quarters or half dollars. Bag quantities ($1K face)of quarters or half dollars usually are calculated using a factor of .710-.715 oz. silver per dollar face. Dimes can be calculated at a considerably lower factor, depending on the overall quality in the bag. Salting a bag heavily with slicks, regardless of denomination is considered taboo.

    Bump for the morning crew...

I guess halves fare better in circulation... at least these two have only lost ~ 4-5% of their weight.
