How reliable is Krause in terms of existence?

I am running into some trouble running into references of a couple coins anywhere but in Krause. This includes speaking with dealers in the repsective country. For example Krause lists a coin has been struck in both Bronze and Copper but I am only finding the Bronze version which is listed as a lower mintage total than the copper piece. Many sellers I have bought from have listed the coin as copper but it ends up being the same as all the others. Any tips for figuring this out?

No the existance. Krause says copper and bronze, people say bronze only.

Are you talking about coins of an existing government?

If so, try contacting the country's mint, or its treasury department. A Google search for "Country name Mint" would probably turn up some contact information.

Of course if the country doesn't exist anymore (such as the German Democratic Republic) that approach probably wouldn't work unless the successor government kept the old records.

Krause says there is a 1994 Cook Islands proof set, no mintage given. I have NEVER seen one, nor has any dealer I have asked.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Here ya go Mad Marty. There probably a reason why it is hard to find the proof sets from that year.
    Cook Islands

But if that were the reason, there would be no coins from 1994 around. There are plenty of $10 and $20 coins, just not the proof sets?

The country gets its coins minted in another country. However I contacted their currency website and they gave me numbers that do not match what Krause says. Do I take their word for it over Krause or does Krause "dig deeper" to uncover secrets? Should I go a step further and contact the neighboring mint?

I realize what you are saying Marty, but if you read on they removed from circulation all notes and coins by 1995 except for the $3 note specifically for tourists. I am betting that the proof sets were not sold to too many people and they probably just destroyed the rest.

I keep watching the Aussie websites, I got the 90 and 92 set from down under. I'm hoping to find a 94 sets!! As well as the holy grail! the 1985 Gold Weenie Dollar (mintage 25).
