One way to get rid of junk wax...

Was strolling through my local wal-mart and saw a blaster that contained wax packs from various years with the hopes of getting a 1970-79 pack or even an elusive 1952 high number via contest. Fine print said most packs would be from the 80's to 00's. I'm guessing a lot of 1987 topps in there...

Anyone brave enough to risk $20 on this one?

I bought one of those on EBay once. If I remember correctly the best pack I got was '86 Topps baseball.

That's right..... the BEST pack.

I picked one up at Walmart few weeks ago, oldest thing was the Topps minis that have the white border around them, like 86 or 87 maybe. Couple packs of Tristars, 88,89,90,91 Donruss, 90,92 Fleer, 89, 90 Topps. Assortment of junk.

I did, once...yes it was total junk and to add insult to injury, some of the packs even had cards with dinged corners. LOL

I bought 2 boxes thinking I might hit something decent. After opening both boxes I got nothing but junk. I think the best cards I got was a 1987 schmidt from the 1987 rack packs All Star glossy set and a 1988 Topps Pete rose manager. Yes the above post was right. I also got many cards with worn or dinged corners so obviously the packs were resealed. I though they were the lamest boxes I ever opened in my life IMHO.

My 41st B-Day was this past weekend, my wife knew I collected cards, but have trimmed (Pun not intended) my buying back to a few cards every now and then. She was in Wal-Mart and bought one of these boxes as a gift. My box included

1 1986 Topps League Leader Minis
1 2007 Tri-Star Projections

2 Seperate Hand-Made Cellos from 1987 Topps

My haul after opening included: A nice 1987 Leaf Bo Jackson Rated Rookie, a 1987 Topps Greenwell RC, a 1987 Topps Barry Larkin RC, a 1988 Donruss Tom Glavine RC, a 1990 Fleer Larry Walker RC, a 1988 Topps Big George Brett.

Overall Thoughts: Yes it is wasted money, but it was free for me. The Bo RC is nicely centered and mint and I actually didnt have one, so I was OK with it. The handmade Topps Cellos look like they came from vending boxes as they were really clean, but again, its still 1987 Topps. The rest was junk, but knew that going in. Overall, it is pretty good for a money maker, which is why the "estate" pack sales still sell on ebay.
