Does usps insurance cover against lost of gold and silver items coins/bars?
Anybody have any experience with this?

I don't think you have to declare the item. Just the value.

USPS has insurance that is covered for up to $10,000.00. Any declared value above that will only add to the amount you have to pay.

Are you filing a claim? if so what type mailing did you use.

My mistake, USPS covers only up to $25,000.00 for registered mail. So you shouldn't declare more than that amount, unless you just want to make them richer, IMHO.
