How do you add an avatar?

I couldn't find it in my profile. THere is a drop-down box of 1000s of items - is that a list of everyone's avatar? I would like to use the attached picture.

Pic is too large. The 15th of the month you can add an avatar. Go to your profile and have the pic re-sized to 100 X 100.
