APMEX has 68 Engelhard 1/2 oz prospectors at the moment. They had a bunch of 1/2 oz pamp suisse bars for $14 each but I jumped on those
$16.20 on the Engelhard 1/2s if you purchase over 20. I passed but thought someone here may want em.

That is a huge premium over spot; is there a perceived or real numismatic value to these?
Curious......

I am wondering the same thing. Almost all of my silver is in the form of generic 10 oz bars at only modest premiums over spot. Why would stackers pay so much above spot for silver bullion?

It was a free shipping auction so it averages out to a bit less buying (with shipping) from APMEX. Bear in mind, that is ONE auction.
So, it's a toss up and the beauty/intrinsic value of the round is in the eyes of the purchaser, as always.

People pay premiums for Morgan & Peace dollars why not these? I guarantee you Morgan dollar mintages are at 100x that of these pieces. One of these days Silver bars & rounds will get the respect they deserve and prices will skyrocket.
<< <i>There's nothing rare about either of those items. I don't know why anyone would pay those premiums. >>
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

alternative to 90%. You will see these in 1/10 , 1/4 , and 1/2 oz sizes. They all came in 5oz tubes.
The 1/10s were the most popular followed by the 1/4s and the 1/2s. Sales of the fractionals were
so bad that Engelhard made them a 1 year only experiment. While I do not consider any of these
as " RARE " ....... finding them as singles is tough .... and full original rolls are very tough. How many
have you seen at shows or at your local B&M? As for collectability .... Shoot yes ..... Engelhard and JM
bar collecting is just begining. And while the smaller bars do have a big premium ... over all you are getting
a lot of value for the money .... and no grey sheets!! As for price .... I see it as fair. Lets see how long they
last to determine how fair. ( and no, I will not buy them to mess with Y'All !!).
Keep on Stack'n !!

I saw those 1/2 oz Suisse bars (did you notice that they said they had 'abrasions in the fields', I think it was?).
As for the fractional Engelhards, there were a number of 5 oz tubes of 50 1/10oz'ers sold on eBay recently, that went for around $500-$700 (over $100/oz).
