"RD-RED" grade on Copper?

I was told PCGS would no longer use this qualifier as over time they have seen coin turn to RedBrown! is this true? If so,it would seem to bring way down the alleged value of the "RED" graded copper no?
thoughts from experts? image I was going to buy a RD graded 2 cent piece but now am not so sure it's worth the extra $800 or so in grade!

It's definately something to think about when it comes to buying copper in RD.

My understanding is that they will still use the RED designation on the holder, but will not guarantee the red color.

  • I have not heard of any plans to do away with the RD designation. But, the elimination of the guarantee that one RD today won't become RB next week has definitely been one of the most controversial events in numismatics over the last 12 months.

  • I've heard nothing of the sort...red copper is still red copper - until it's not. While the PCGS copper color guarantee policy has indeed quite an interesting topic here and elsewhere, let's hope our copper doesn't change for the next few decades. Keep in the proper conditions, the copper experts tell us we should be fine.

Save yourself the trouble and purchase copper in RB or BN. They look better when toned with blues/greens/magentas anyway image

And then you don't have to worry if the RD will change to RB.
