So I shipped a very expensive coin to PCGS on the 26th via Registered mail and...

It's still listed simply as "Acceptance"
"Your item was accepted at 10:10 AM on May 26, 2010"
I know Registered is slow, but shouldn't I have seen some sort of update by now?
Thanks!

I generally slap a del. conf. label on there so I can get better tracking.
Buying top quality Seated Dimes in Gem BU and Proof.
Buying great coins - monster eye appeal only.
You might check your credit card to see if it has been billed by PCGS.
That's how I make sure NGC gets my subs.
Did the show improve for you Saturday??

although generally a very safe method, hard to place value on submission
and expensive to pay insurance

<< <i>sending registered from FL to CA, set yourself up for 2 weeks of anguish

I just sent 2 boxes, each with 40 coins in it from CA to FL and it took about 4 - 5 days. Registered seems quick right now...
Registered mail using the small flat rate box, insured for $5000, cost is $25.
<< <i>I just priced sending a 10 ounce package by Express, insured for $5000, cost is $40.

And sending it First Class/Registered is some $2 and change cheaper still...

<< <i>I recently sent two packages from Florida to PCGS by Registered Mail. Both were mailed together, but one took 13 days, the other 15 days, and tracking was not updated until they arrived. >>
Repeat after me...
Tracking is not offered on registered mail.
From here:

Delivery information will provide delivery status or attempted delivery status when the item reaches its destination, it will not provide tracking of the item as it is enroute to its destination."

I've used Registered Mail before and was aware of this. I was just trying to let the OP know his experience was not a cause for concern, not intending to imply the post office didn't do something they should have done.

Fair enough.
The reason I posted is that there are regular comments here complaining about the lack of tracking for registered mail (not that I'm saying your post was a complaint), and I think it is kind of unfair to criticize the post office for not providing a service they never claimed to provide in the first place.

I agree 100% with you on that. Maybe I've been lucky but so far every package I have mailed has made it intact to the destination. The manager at my local post office goes out of his way to help his customers. Recently he let me use his paper Registered Mail tape to wrap the two packages I mentioned. He even gave me some extra to take home with me since I have been unable to find it for sale in my area. I have no complaints.
Edited just to add that I should have explained my first comment. I can see how it could have been taken as a complaint.
Yesterday the gentleman who owns the coin came into the shop and I had to tell him of this oversight. I'm feeling a bit stupid today. I hope it gets there and will call customer service after the weekend to put a track on submission # ______________.

I find the paper tape @ Office Depot
<< <i>The downside of registered is that you have no idea how long it will take, and won't have any idea if it got there safely until it actually does. That seems kind of old fashioned, to me. >>
Registered mail is itself an anachronism. Old fashioned taping and hand labeling in the computer age--I've been saying for years that it won't last much longer. --Jerry
