96 Down--1963 Topps Peel-Offs Completed in PSA 8 or Better

I have been on a bit of a hot streak in completing sets recently. Sometimes I can go a couple of months without completing a set and sometimes they happen quickly. This is the 4th set I have completed in the past 10 days and credit once again goes to all-world dealer Steve Novella who scouted down a set that not only had never been registered before but is now the #1 set in the PSA Set Registry.

The 1963 Topps Peel-Offs is a set of 46 that came in packs of 1963 cards--one of my prime collecting years as a kid. The lineup of superstars in the set is incomparable including Aaron, Banks, Clemente, Hubbs, Kaline, Koufax, Killebrew, Mantle, Mays, Musial, Brooks Boboinson, Frank Robinson and Yaz. The set contains 29 PSA 9s and 17 PSA 8s. While I had most of the set ungraded they were in pretty rough shape. This contains 29 PSA 8s and 17 PSA 8s and has a set rating of 8.50 placing it 1st in the PSA Set Registry. What a find for Steve. I will let the set rest here.

This set represents my 96th set with each card PSA 8 or better and my 40th baseball set. The goal remains 100 vintage or semi-vintage sets completed PSA 8 or better. I appreciate the help of all collectors and dealers in helping me achieve my goals.

Congratualations on another one. With this pace you'll achieve your goal by the end of the week. I'm still trying to finish my first set. I hope you don't stop at 100. You seem like your having too much fun to stop collecting.

Congratulations on another notch in the barrel! This year (1963) was the second year I opened packs as a kid and I've got quite a few of these peel-offs. I didn't realize there were 46 in the set. I'm going to have to take inventory of what I've got. Thanks for that!

Question -- are you going to add scans of these to your Set Registry? I'm not sure what kind of scan-quality these would have. I'm also curious which side is facing up when encased in plastic. I'll have to check out some on-line sales to see how they did that...

Congrats Jim ... I think MANY of the 60s inserts are real nice items. I have a few of the sets, but in raw form.

Did you ever see my comment regarding your '69 set? If not, I asked about a couple of cards. Here was my question:

I am putting together a raw set. I need the following cards:

    51 - Sayers
    120 - Csonka
132b - Checklist with NO border
    139 - Butkus
    163 - Otto

Please PM me if you have them and include your price. Thank you.

    STAY HEALTHY!

    Doug

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
