A friend of mine found one at the Chelsea Michigan Show Last weekend. He just grabbed a couple 23's because they were going cheap dealer to dealer. When I saw it the thing made the hair on the back of my neck stand up don't see many with a strike that good.
Yeah I didnt nail the sharpness in that picture either. I think it focused on the slab. My eye sight isnt good enough for manual focus. Lights not there either. Quite a challenge but i think im close.
Yeah I had 3 just like this. All Ms64 23s and all with that deep golden color and hammered. I sold all 3, now im wishing I kept 1 or 2 Only downside on this one was the ripped up nostril. I think the other 2 were even cleaner.
Yes, it has very nice hair details. But I would not call it an exceptional strike. It has some common weaknesses such as the area of truncation on the bust (the flat spot), and VST in TRVST, and flattened (rather than rounded) upper surfaces of the date and lettering. Other important areas of the obverse are a little hard to make out because the photo is a little out of focus.
