Acetone

Will any of you still use acetone to clean coins now that pcgs may be able to detect it?
Positive:

    Sure, it only takes away organic material such as PVC (Polyvinyl chloride). It does not take off toning. It is one of the few things on the approved list of substances you can rinse your coins in without adverse effects, assuming done correctly with ventilation.

    Someone should do a video tutorial on how to do this. Perhaps using modern coins and pre 33 coins.

    Acetone is a solvent and should evaporate I think it would have the effect of removing detectable substances. I wouldn't use a solvent unless the coin had a problem anyway. I inheirted some coins and they had been varnished or shellacked and glued into books.
    Sometimes you just dont have any other options.
    Give the laziest man the toughest job and he will find the easiest way to get it done.

    Sometimes the small things to someone who is experianced can be funny, but for a new be it can be gathering knowlege.

    The only dumb question is the question you don't ask. (I don't know who said it but I like it)

    BTW I have oodles of question I haven't gotten around to asking and I'm sure they may seem silly to others.
