NCI Photo Certificate holder Morgan Dollar

Anyone have any info on these slabs? Kinda resembles a PCGS Rattler. Seems to be accurately graded and doesn't really have any imperfections except for a hit on the lower right of Liberty's cheek. Nice semi-PL fields, although the photos don't show it. Any opinions or comments?

NCI was a affiliate of Heritage Capital Corp. I think they were highly regarded at the time.

I've owned two Morgans graded by NCI with photo certificates. Both were graded MS65/65, and would likely have been hight end 64's to low end 65's by today's standards.

Interesting. Mine unfortunately didn't come with the actual photo certificate, just the slab. Do you think this particular Morgan is accurately graded and if the holder warrants a premium?

Most of the photo certificates are dated in the 1986 to 1987 range. This slab replaced the photo certificate and likely dates from 1989 to the early 90's. I don't believe there is any premium associated with the holder. As far as the coin, hit wise it seems like a nice 64, the luster seems a bit muted though, and may hold it back to a 63.

  • This is another situation where my bad photo taking skills come into play. I wasn't able to capture the luster very well, which is somewhat medicore on the obverse but is blinding on the reverse. Without the hit on the lower right end of the cheek it would be a solid 65 in my opinion.
