Small hoard of estate coins for sale

fastfreddiefastfreddie Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭✭✭
Some mighty nice coins for sale with only one side shown. Does this look legit. to you? Seller has great feedback but nothing high end like the $80k seated half for sale or ever an $1800 seated quarter. Could this be a freak coincidence right before the holiday? At least he seems to buy nice items.

Comments. Who's gonna report this for one-sided photo's?

  • Looks legit to me. Seller will send more photo's on request and has a 3 day return policy except on the Barber half. I don't see any reason to report this seller.

Plenty of reasons to be leary, but one time I made freinds with a seller like this and ended up getting great deals on coins he had not listed. Doesn't mind sending x-tra pics or answering questions. Offering a 80K half inside of what appears to be a body bag is pretty cool tooimage------BigE

I think the auctions are legitimate.

I also think the $15k and $80k prices are high hopes from someone who isn't sure how to grade.

    I don't think one-sided photos are a reportable offense.

I saw the $80,000 raw and apparently cleaned half and my first impulse was to come to these boards begging for a loan to buy the coin. Then I realized that advertising it, would only lead others to the auction and it would be bought out from under me. So, shhhh, If I get my grandma to take out a second mortgage, I am buying that baby! image

Weird, the other coins seem to be priced about right for the grade, but two of the coins seem to have had a price entered while the seller was puffing on a crack pipe.

Well, the seller knew how to price the PCGS graded Unc. coins pretty well. I doubt a person who owns many PCGS graded coins, grades those coins close to market, but somehow misses that a raw half, potentially cleaned, is somehow worth close to 100k.

The PCGS coins have been pulled...

Edit: But now they're back...I guess he put pics of the reverse up.

Not quite. Look at the sticker on the back of the seated half that's been listed... that's a PCGS label. That coin may well be sitting in a bodybag in the photo.

Well it's amazing how the dearly departed had a 1880 Trade Dollar PR63CAM PCGS Secure plus in his collection considering they just started this service very recently. A man ahead of his time I guess you might say!!

The seller might have purchased a collection/estate and then submitted the coins for grading recently. Likely? No. Possible? Yes.

The seated half is obviously in a body bag and looks polished. Also looks like the seller forgot to add the decimal point to his price. I really like those two seated quarters, though.

Haven't checked, but I think those two are out of recent auctions. Another amazing piece of timing.
  • Hi it’s me the ebay guy just want to clear up a few items.

    1. The “Dearly Departed” died in January. Just for your information you can get a coin graded quick. If you don’t believe me, see sub# 9117830 for the trade dollar and #106199 for the others. The "Dearly Departed" also has a full V nickel set MS64 & 65 with some proofs sub# 4168898 for the 1912S going to auction with a few other high priced items.

    2. If I didn’t want the responsibility for the coins for an estate sale, why would I bother getting them graded?

    3. If you took the time to look at my feed back on ebay instead of calling me a thief, would have noticed that I bought more coins in the last 6 months than you probably made in your entire life time.

    4. Since you seem to think that I valued a few of my coins way to high. I got you to look. Its called marketing. Remember that.

Any way, have a nice day!

Considering that estate usually equals "scam" you got off pretty lucky here.

I bought more coins in the last 6 months than you probably made in your entire life time.

Now, that is way over the top and makes me doubt your entire post.

I concur. I want to meet the guy who buys $1-3mil in coins in a month.

EDIT: Marketing and sales are two very different things. We always discuss the ebay auctions where some wacko is selling a coin for $200k. - That doesnt mean the coin is any more likely to sell, it just means more people are aware of the gentleman's mental instability.

Thanks for choosing to pop into the conversation. Good job on getting them graded. The ungraded ones however are pretty much based upon the pictures that are submitted. If you submit pictures here we should be able to tell you what your ungraded coin is approx. worth. Secondly, please do not make childish, snide remarks in a forum whose sole-purpose is coin collecting. They have a lot of experience and could potentially help you.

You shouldnt get so upset over what people that dont know you personally say.

Look if you want/need help, get help. We don't know you, we know coins. Coins are what bring us together in this forum and we question what other sellers put up because we would like to make an informed decision. You're not the only person who lost a loved one. Many people in this forum can testify to that, but that's life. And since this is a Coin forum, we talk about coins.

Please, could you put up better pics of the unslabbed Liberty Seated Arrow?

True, no one called him a thief. But how much nicer is this?:

I think a number of us would react equally "ludicrous"(ly) if we lost a friend or family member and were accused of lying about it and having the legitimacy of our Ebay listings questioned, all at the same time.

A photo of just one side of the coin is okay for raw coins or those certified by third world TPGs.

Both sides must be shown for approved TPG-certified coins minted prior to 1981. One side of the slab is fine for those minted after 1980.

I'll take the hit. Sorry for the comments. Some folks just say things behind their keyboards that they'd never, ever say in person. I mean, we're COIN COLLECTORS, fer cryin' out loud image

TwoSides is right, though. We are a sceptical lot. But, we've also seen a lot of cr@p movers on the 'Bay. Apparently, you're not one of 'em.

My condolences on the passing of your dad. Best of luck in your future endevours, and I hope that you'll stick around. There are actually more than a few good folks here.

PS: BUY GOLD and keep BUYING!!!!!!!!!!!!

did you check the box for retun coins in flip?

when you run out of your fathers coins, are you going to buy more to continue your estate sales (with money from previous estate sales)?

did you consider selling through a top national auction house?

the cream of any collectibles market seems to float to the top, and many
people consider eBay to be a bottom dweller auction house due to all the scams involved there
  • Most of the collection will be going to Stacks next week to eventually be auctioned off.

Oh! I forgot. Then I buy gold and keep buying.
